Angelina Jolie Reveals Her Hopes For Her Six Children

Angelina Jolie arrives for the Women in the World summit on Monday (September 11) in Toronto, Canada.

The actress, director, and humanitarian spoke about her six children, who joined her at the Toronto Film Festival for her premieres this week.

“I hope they’re being raised to see the value of diversity, the value of other people. They ask the questions we’re all asking. They see what’s happening in Syria or in Myanmar and they ask why, and we’re all trying to find the same answers,” Angelina said. “I will look for all different ways to communicate about their histories and really to teach them.”

“We homeschool and I’m very very aware of their education, mostly very aware of what’s lacking. For example it’s very important to me my daughter Zahara doesn’t start learning about her history through the civil rights movement in America, that’s not how she begins to learn about herself as a young African-American,” Angelina continued. “She needs to learn about the great history of Africa and who she is…and not start with the civil rights (movement).”

Angelina Jolie Explains How Netflix Benefits Her New Movie

Angelina Jolie is joined by her First They Killed My Father team at the Variety Studio during the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival on Monday (September 11) in Toronto, Canada.

The 42-year-old director gave an interview alongside the film’s young stars Mun Kimhak and Sareum Srey Moch, writer Loung Ung, and producer Rithy Panh.

Later that day, Angelina participated in a discussion with Rithy on stage in front of a live audience.

At the Variety Studio, presented by AT&T at DIRECTV at Momofuku Toronto, Angelina opened up about the benefits of her movie being released on Netflix.

“A lot of foreign films have very small theatrical releases and the theatrical release we have is solid for a foreign film. It actually in some ways been given even more because we had such a strong premiere in Cambodia and the push and ability to have it across the states,” Angelina told Variety. “For foreign films, I think it can help reach a bigger audience to have both in theaters and to stream.”

Angelina Jolie Will Return to Acting with 'Maleficent 2': 'I Am Now the Breadwinner for the Family'

Angelina Jolie is talking about the new script for the sequel to Maleficent, which she says will be her next film.

“I am now the breadwinner for the family so it’s time [to get back to work],” Angelina laughed while speaking to Deadline. The publication asked her if she would be doing Universal’s Bride of Frankenstein next, but Angelina confirmed that Maleficent will be her next project. (FYI – Angelina has been linked to Bride of Frankenstein for some time, but has never been confirmed for the project.)

“We have been working on the script and this is going to be a really strong sequel,” Angelina added. If you missed it, Angelina previously spoke about her plans to return to acting after a “family situation” this past year.

Angelina Jolie Plans Return to Acting After 'Family Situation'

It has been two years since Angelina Jolie appeared on screen in the movie By the Sea, which she directed, and now she plans on returning to acting.

The Oscar-winning actress says that she is not passionate about directing anything right now and she will resume her acting career very soon.

“Right now I don’t have anything to direct that I feel passionate about like this, so I’ll do some acting. I’ve taken over a year off now, because of my family situation, to take care of my kids,” Angelina said in an interview with THR.

“When I feel it’s time for me to go back to work, I’ll be able to go back to work. I’ve been needed at home. I hope [to work again] in the months to come,” she added.

Angelina says her next project will likely be the Maleficent sequel.

Angelina Jolie: 'I Don't Enjoy Being Single, It's Not Something I Wanted'

Angelina Jolie is opening up about how hard this past year has been for her after her split from Brad Pitt.

“Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together. But really I am just trying to get through my days. I don’t enjoy being single. It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard,” Angelina said to the Sunday Telegraph.

“Emotionally it’s been a very difficult year. And I have some other health issues. So my health is something I have to monitor,” Angelina added, referring to her hypertension and Bell’s palsy diagnoses that she revealed earlier in the summer. “I feel sometimes that my body has taken a hit, but I try to laugh as much as possible. We tend to get so stressed that our children feel our stress when they need to feel our joy. Even if you are going through chemo, you need to find the ability to love and laugh. It may sound like a postcard, but it’s true.”
