No white/asian/native actors for the roles of black characters? of course not.

  • AeeJay

I hope you aren’t expecting for a black director to hire someone other than a black actor. talk so much crap about diversity ..but won’t dare hire any non-black for this movie.

  • Asha

You people need to shut the hell up. Very few movies get made in Hollywood with a lead character who is not white. Let’s not forget this movie is set in Africa. You want to seriously complain about a black character having a black love interest. Get the hell out of here.

  • Ariana-Kaelita

So are they gonna try to fit every black actor in this movie for the sake of it? Just wondering.

  • Nicola

Right. Because there’s a wealth of white directors rushing to diversify their casts.

  • Anna

Anyone else SHOCKED?! I mean…Michael was in Fox’s Fantastic 4 just a few months ago. That ended up being a disaster. So I’m actually shocked that he not only nailed another Marvel film, but a great one coming up. Real happy to hear this actually. I thought he might have a tough time bouncing back after the disaster that Fox pulled with the F4. Really like this kid, he was amazing in Creed.

Edit: Just read the article and the reason he was cast was because of the Director, whom he worked with twice before. Man, this guy is REAL lucky. This will wash out that horrible F4 film out of my mouth.

  • Gina

Exactly. Some people just don’t get it. They tell us that if we want to get recognition that we should make our own movies and hire our own people; and when we do, they get mad.

  • Gina

Are you complaining just for the sake of it? Just wondering.

  • Ariana-Kaelita

No. I am just trying to point out how Hollywood has gotten in trouble for casting the lack of black actors in movies, and think its okay somehow to cast every black actor possible in one movie to make up for the lack diversity overall. Thats all. I mean, Lupita, Micheal B. Jordon? These seem like actors who could get better work then this.

  • Gina

Lets not forget that this is just one movie in a sea of Hollywood movies, this is unprecedented and probably a one-off. Trust me, one movie isn’t gonna make up for the lack of diversity in Hollywood. Everyone’s precious status quo will still remain intact, unfortunately.

You say that these actors could get better work than his, but Marvel movies seem to be the new hot thing in Hollywood at the moment, so I don’t see how this movie is beneath them. Seems like people are chomping at the bit for these roles.

  • ola akande

the black panther character is based in africa…if u saw the captain america movie, u would’ve known that chadwick talks with an african accent…..why wouldn’t the majority of the cast be black? lmaooo

& lets just talk about all the hundreds of white directors that have diversified their cast in movies…..ya i thought so…..think before u speak

  • https://disqus.com/home/channel/conceievedeceiveorleave/ LadyElaine

Every movie I have seen with Ryan Coogler at the helm has been amazing. I expect no less from this.

  • AeeJay

So everyone in Africa is black? OK.. IF they can change characters that were written as white characters then they should be welcomed to changing any character. But that is real diversity, not when it just applies to black actors.. it should be in every movie in every character..

  • AeeJay

what does that have to do with anything? so don’t expect change to happen with that mentality.

  • AeeJay

you really can’t expect to continue to cast an all black cast & cry about diversity.. Im looking at the big picture & the hypocrisy that comes with it.. you on the other hand stay looking at the small one.

  • ola akande

lol look at ur argument, ur appalled that a movie that will somewhat be set in Africa, doesn’t have white ppl as the lead lmaoooo….if u wanna see an all white superhero male/female lead movie u have like 7 other movies to choose from.

if u wanna see a movie set in africa starring white ppl watch cleopatra, gods of egypt, & exodus

    GoodBye

  • AeeJay

Stupid of me to think I could get an intelligent answer from someone like yourself. Thats why ya’ll keep crying over diversity or begging old white men for roles. go back to your hut.

  • ola akande

no thats where ur wrong buddy.

non white actors (blk, asian, hispanic) can’t beg white ppl for roles bc white ppl aren’t gonna give em any roles….USA as a whole is diverse as hell but ur not gonna see that in films that are green lit by an all white committee.

in most generic movies/tv shows u will get 1 blk person or 1 asian person with a cast of 7 white ppl.

ur argument is ur mad that ONE WHITE FICTIONAL character may get played by a non white person what maybe once a decade? lmao

we’ve seen NONFICTIONAL black characters played by white ppl….liz taylor as cleopatra ring a bell? angelina jolie as mariane pearl ring a bell?

    yaaa i thought so lmao

its funny u failed to mention emma stone/scarlett johanson just recently got blasted by the asian community for playing blatantly asian characters lmaoo but thats OK with u huh

they have to make roles for themselves like shonda does on ABC, 50 cent does on showtime, fresh off the boat, dr ken, blackish, jane the virgin, etc.

the fact that ur mad there are no white ppl in a movie thats set in africa is hilarious….what u gonna blast the TV show Fresh Off The Boat bc there isn’t a white lead in the asian family? lmaooo

im goin back to my hut now (drops mic)

  • Gina

No, honey. The big picture is that it’s just one movie in a sea of many prominently white movies. This brings diversity to the movie-making landscape as a whole. You don’t get to decide how you take your diversity. I’m sorry you’re pissed about there being too many black people in a movie, but you’ll get over it.

  • VanityInsecurity

I get what you are saying. I agree with the diversity issue being on fair game, but comic book characters imo should stay the same as they were written years ago. Panther & his tribe needs to remain African/black. Their tribe in the conics are secluded from many of the natives there.

  • AeeJay

    die a pain & slow death.. k thanks bye-bye. :D

  • LaCroix

Jordan has more experience yet he didnt get the lead.. im sure he was going for it. Boseman is a way better actor, his face actually moves when he talks. I know this actor isn’t on any ones radar but Elvis Nolasco would have been perfect for the lead.

  • VanityInsecurity

WOW. I so agree with Nolasco, one hellava actor! All a matter of opinion really.. thats all it comes down to. Jordan is horrible can’t act to save his life imo.

  • AeeJay

I get that, the lead Panther & his tribe but his brother in the comics (Hunter) is white not black, Im sure that Jordan took that part. which technically falls into your hypothesis about not changing cbooks characters.

  • VanityInsecurity

yeah his adopted brother is white. hence white wolf. it hasn’t been announced yet the role Jordan is playing. but in that case yes I’d be disappointed in the director.

  • LaCroix

at this point its all about big names at the box office, Nolasco is better than both of these guys put together.

  • LaCroix

you do understand that there are white characters in the comic book especially T’challa’s main rival his white adopted brother.. read the comic b4 you talk

  • ola akande

thats not the point, the point is someone complaining about a movie set in africa & appalled at the fact that a black person is cast to play any characters at all lmaooo

they never said michael b jordan is playing the best friend, they hinted at him playing a villain #ReadingIsComprehension

  • Gina

Aww, is that all you got, hon? Clearly you opted on throwing a tantrum instead of offering a proper rebuttal. Probably because you know I’m right. Bye-bye now. :)

  • Nicola

You can’t cry hypocrisy in an industry where the vast majority of white directors cast solely white actors.

  • HEBREW hebrew

It seems to be okay, when there are multiple So Called “Black” Actors in supporting roles; Amistad (The Slaves) !2 Years a Slave (Slaves). No problem. But let them be in leading roles, then there’s a discussion about diversity (Or, as was stated,” Too many So Called “Black” Stars in one movie). Not, So Called “Blacks”, bringing it up; but So Called “Whites.” complaining about it. #UnF$%king Believable#, not!
